The requirements on the capacity of container cranes hasve been increasing constantly in recent years.

Trolley speeds exceeding 200 m/min are quite common, so that conventional cable festoon systems are bumping up against their technical limits.

New approaches have been introduced to cope with the ever higher trolley speeds and the associated load on the cable material. A combination of motor-driven and drive-less cable festoon systems represents one cost-conscious solution. For careful handling of the cables, it is necessary at speeds above 200 m/min to provide some cable festoon systems with a drive in order to achieve better motion alignment between the crane trolley and the power supply. In the application, the number of motor-driven cable festoon systems depends on the individual crane and its technical parameters, e.g., trolley track, speed, acceleration, cable weight, number of runs, etc.

The design developed by VAHLE of motor-driven cable festoon systems distinguishes itself through its reliability and careful handling of the cables. In particular, even under poor weather conditions, such as storms, snow, or rain, the system has proven effective on previously equipped container cranes. For a large part, the maintenance is limited to a regular visual inspection.

Series WA 145 R - frequency-regulated AC motor with a power output of 2.2 or 3.0 KW. The permissible load equals max. 500 kg and the polyurethane-coated steel rollers have a diameter of 140 mm.

Series WA 155 R - frequency-regulated AC motor with a power output of 4.0 or 5.5 KW. The permissible load equals max. 750 kg and the polyurethane-coated steel rollers have a diameter of 160 mm.
